I actually came across Locusts through an Instagram recommendation — one of those rare moments where the algorithm genuinely delivers. One clip was enough to send me straight to their debut EP, Lapsus Ab Inferno, and it’s been on repeat ever since.
What hits first isn’t genre — it’s intensity. This EP feels alive. The energy is immediate and physical, the kind that belongs in a packed, low-ceiling venue where there’s no gap between band and crowd. The riffs are sharp and driving, but it’s the hardcore pulse underneath that really defines it. The drums push everything forward with urgency, and the vocals erupt with a raw, confrontational edge that feels completely unfiltered.
There’s no wasted space across the record. Tracks are tight, direct and purposeful. Instead of leaning on nostalgia or trying to replicate a specific era, Locusts channel something far more current — frustration, momentum, and a sense of barely contained chaos. Breakdowns land hard without feeling forced, and shifts in pace keep the listener slightly on edge.
The production keeps things gritty but clear, preserving the danger without turning into a blur. You can hear the intent in every section. Nothing feels accidental.
For a debut, Lapsus Ab Inferno sounds confident and self-aware. Locusts don’t come across as a band trying to fit into a scene — they sound like they’re carving out their own lane within it. It’s urgent, aggressive and refreshingly authentic. If this is the starting point, they’re only going to get louder.
