For this post, I had the chance to zap some questions to Rob, the founder of Crownd, – an independent apparel brand coming out of Leeds that’s been quietly building something real. No hype, no shortcuts — just a clear vision, hard work, and a strong sense of identity.

Crownd is rooted in the idea of self-belief and ownership — wearing your crown, backing yourself, and standing by your values. The brand reflects the mindset of people who are building something of their own, whether that’s a business, a creative path, or simply a better version of themselves. It’s streetwear with substance, created for everyday life rather than passing trends.

What stood out most during the conversation was how much thought goes into every aspect of the brand — from design choices and quality, to community and consistency. Crownd isn’t trying to shout the loudest; it’s focused on longevity, authenticity, and putting out pieces that people genuinely want to live in.

Below, the founder talks openly about the journey so far, the challenges of running an independent brand in the UK, and what Crownd represents as it continues to grow.

For anyone who’s new to Crownd Apparel, how would you explain the brand and what it stands for in your own words?

Crownd is about ownership. It’s about taking charge of your life — not the career you fell into ten years ago because you needed a job.

It’s about starting.

Those small, uncomfortable steps that slowly push you in the right direction.

It’s about taking back control from the mundane, the day-to-day grind, and learning how to actually live again.

Crowning yourself — because no one is going to hand it to you.

So why are you still waiting?

What was the moment you decided “I’m actually going to start this” — and what problem or gap were you trying to solve?

I used to come home from work and draw every night.

It was my therapy — the one thing that cleared my head and pulled me fully into the moment.

Headwear has always been my thing, so I designed a hat and had one made for myself.

A few people asked about it.

Then a friend wanted to buy one.

Then another.

That’s how Crownd was born — completely naturally, without a master plan.

And I’ve loved the journey ever since.

Streetwear is crowded. What do you think makes Crownd different from other brands out there?

You’re right — it’s extremely crowded, and that makes standing out difficult.

But I think people can feel the difference between a cool graphic brand and a brand with meaning.

Everything I create has purpose behind it.

My Core collection is minimal — because sometimes a single word or icon carries more weight than any screaming back print.

From Nothing focuses on external pressure, personal journeys, and defining moments.

Fracture is more internal — mental battles, conflict, and honesty.

This is raw.

Straight from my head to ink.

No filters.

I don’t follow trends.

I don’t take design tips.

I don’t follow rules.

I make exactly what I want for myself — no one else.

If someone doesn’t connect with it, that’s fine.

It’s just not for them.

What’s been the biggest lesson (or mistake) you’ve learned since launching the brand?

Getting ahead of myself.

Trying to run before I’d even learned how to crawl.

It’s easy to look at successful brands and want to be part of that world instantly.

But the biggest lesson I’ve learned is this:

A good customer can become a friend far quicker than a friend becomes a good customer.

Looking ahead, where would you love to see Crownd in a few years — creatively or as a community?

From the very start, I wanted Crownd to be for real people.

Real connections.

A real community.

A brand that gives back — that supports people chasing their own version of success and building the life they actually want.

On a personal level, I’ve loved the late nights, the work, and the connections this brand has brought me — and I hope that only continues to grow.

One day, I want to do this full-time.

To step away from the desk grind and earn the time freedom to repay my wife and kids for the sacrifices they’ve made.

I’ve taken time and financial comfort away from them to chase this dream — and I would have failed already without my wife pushing me every step of the way.

Working overtime.

Carrying more than she ever should have had to, while I built.

That’s the crown I’m still working to earn.

——-

All in all, Crownd is a brand doing things the right way — built on passion, consistency, and a genuine belief in what it stands for. It’s always good to see independent UK brands putting quality and authenticity first, and Crownd is definitely one to keep an eye on. Make sure you give Rob a follow on Instagram to keep up with the journey, and check out the Crownd website to see what they’re building — you won’t be disappointed.
